NUC accreditation has kept academic programmes competitive —AAUA VC

The National Universities Commission, NUC, has been commended for its regular efforts at accrediting academic programmes in Nigerian  Universities and for helping to ensure standardisation of academic  training and knowledge impartation.
This commendation was given last week by the Vice Chancellor of  Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Igbekele  Ajibefun, while playing host to the NUC accreditation teams who visited  the University for a review and accreditation of various academic  programmes.
Prof. Ajibefun, who was represented by the Deputy Vice  Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Olugbenga Ige, said accreditation and review of academic programmes are some of the best innovations of the  National Universities Commission for which it should continually be  applauded. He stated further that accreditation of programmes has helped in keeping academic programmes in Nigerian varsities in good standing  and has also helped to standardize them.
He added that, Our University is young, yet it is a leading  University in Ondo State that is aspiring to be the best in the country. As a University, we are very eager to develop. Over the years, we have  been doing very well with the quality and exploits of our graduates and  undergraduates.
In their reactions, the team leaders for the Mathematics, and Physics and Electronics Departments, Professors G. O. Avwiri and O. O. Micah,  respectively appreciated the University for the warm reception. They  clarified that the teams are not in Ajasin Varsity on a fault-finding  mission but for the peer review of programmes so that they can remain in the realm of standards as spelt out by the NUC.
